The Chiba Lotte Marines announced the following coaching staff changes today:

  • Yusuke Torigoe – Head coach/infield/base coach → Head coach
  • Makoto Kosaka – Ni-gun infield/base coach → Ichi-gun infield/base coach
  • Koichi Hori – Ni-gun hitting/ikusei coach → Ni-gun infield/base coach
  • Kazuya Fukuura – Hitting coach/infielder → Infielder

[4/10/2018] Kazuya Fukuura sets new Lotte record with 2,162 games

Kazuya Fukuura set a new Chiba Lotte Marines franchise record on April 10 by playing in his 2,162nd game. He started the day tied with Kihachi Enomoto.

[3/31/2018] Kazuya Katsuki to miss three to four months

The Chiba Lotte Marines announced today that Kazuya Katsuki had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb at a hospital in Tokyo on March 29. He will require three to four months for a full recovery. Katsuki suffered the injury while running the bases during a practice game against Hosei University on March 14.

[3/23/2018] Takeshi Kanazawa out four to five weeks with leg injury

Takeshi Kanazawa hurt his left leg while running the bases during an exhibition game against the Seibu Lions on March 20. He was examined at a hospital in Tokyo on March 22 and diagnosed with an injury to his left biceps femoris. He will most likely require four to five weeks for a full recovery.

[3/20/2018] Katsuya Kakunaka leaves game early after hitting wall

Katsuya Kakunaka played in his first exhibition game today after spending time working through issues with his right lower back. He got the start in left and batted clean-up against the Seibu Lions at MetLife Dome. In the first inning, he banged hard into the outfield wall while making a leaping grab. He had difficulty getting up, but remained in the game for his first at bat. He was pulled on defense in the third inning.

Kakunaka later told reporters it felt like someone hit him from the inside and compared his condition to a strained back. He could make a visit to the hospital depending on how he feels tomorrow.

Kakunaka played in a Ni-gun game against Nippon Ham on March 27, but was still not feeling well. He was assigned to Ni-gun after discussing his condition with the coaches on March 28. He played in another Ni-gun game on March 29, but still had problems.

Kakunaka was examined at a hospital on March 30 and was diagnosed with a compression fracture in his twelfth thoracic vertebra. He will need about five weeks for a full recovery.

[2/27/2018] Ikuhiro Kiyota has strained left calf

Ikuhiro Kiyota was diagnosed with a strain in his left calf. He will require about two weeks for a full recovery. He will be reassigned to Ni-gun.

[2/12/2018] Lotte expected to sign Otonari, F. Peguero, Lee

The Chiba Lotte Marines are expected to sign thirty-three-year-old pitcher Kenji Otonari, twenty-nine-year-old Francisco Peguero, and twenty-nine-year-old Tu-Hsuan Lee. All three players are attending spring camp as tryouts.

Otonari pitched in an intra-squad game on February 12. He pitched one inning, faced five hitters, and allowed a run on two hits and a walk. Peguero and Lee each had good intra-squad games on February 11: Peguero went 1-for-2 with a home run and Lee went 2-for-4 with a home run. Both players went hitless (Peguero 0-for-4 and Lee 0-for-2) on February 12.

The Marines officially signed Otonari (one year at ten million yen), Peguero (one year at 60,000 US dollars), and Lee (one year at five million yen) to contracts. They were also assigned uniform numbers:

  • Kenji Otonari – 55
  • Francisco Peguero – 65
  • Tu-Hsuan Lee – 67

[2/10/2018] Chiba Lotte Marines: New pants for road uniforms

The Chiba Lotte Marines unveiled their update 2018 road uniforms. The shirts will remain the same, but the pants will change from grey to white.
