With a runner on first, no out, and the Orix Buffaloes down 1-0 against the Chunichi Dragons at Kyocera Dome, Chris Marrero blasted what appeared to be the first home run of his NPB career. Except, he apparently missed home plate. Chunichi catcher Masato Matsui made an appeal to the umpires after play resumed (Shinnosuke Ogasawara threw the ball over to Matsui), at which point the umpires convened and agreed he was out for failing to touch home plate. The home run became a long triple. Or more specifically: Marrero was ruled out and credited with a triple and one RBI.
I call shenanigans on Buffalo Bell.
