[9/25/2017] Chunichi Dragons Coaching Staff News

September 25 @ 01:50 – Dragons’ Owner Bungo Shirai confirmed on September 24 that Shigekazu Mori will continue to manage the team next year. Shirai also said they are planning to make Hitoki Iwase and Masahiro Araki player/coaches next year (Iwase a pitching coach and Araki a fielding/base coach). Masahiko Morino is slated to remain with the Dragons as a hitting coach.

[9/12/2017] Hanshin Tigers Coaching Staff News

September 24 @ 16:16 – The media learned on September 23 that Imaoka will be leaving the team after the season. He has already submitted a notice to the Tigers. Imaoka could end up getting a job with the Chiba Lotte Marines.

September 19 @ 12:04 – Kanemoto will continue to have full reign over his coaching staff next year. Candidates for Ni-gun manager include Yano, Imaoka, and Ichi-gun batting coach Atsushi Kataoka. The Tigers are hoping to narrow down their options by the time the Ni-gun team plays its last game of the season on September 28.

September 12 @ 15:27 – Ichi-gun Strategy / Battery Coach Akihiro Yano and Ni-gun Hitting Coach Makoto Imaoka are candidates for the Ni-gun manager job. Yano might be the front runner based on Tomoaki Kanemoto’s coaching methods.

September 21 @ 4:46pm – Former Manager and current Senior Director Junji Ogawa might become the front-runner to take over as manager.

September 6 @ 3:04pm – The Swallows are not planning to make an announcement about next year’s manager until after the regular season.

September 5 @ 12:31am – Internal discussions about managerial candidates are ongoing. The Yakult Swallows are hoping to reach some sort of a decision before the end of the month.

[9/4/2017] Chunichi Dragons: more coaching staff changes

The Chunichi Dragons announced a couple more changes to the coaching staff today. Pitching Coach Yui Tomori was re-assigned to international scout. He had been juggling both the coaching and scouting job since 2014. Ni-gun Coach Kenta Asakura will take over as Ichi-gun pitching coach.

Shigekazu Mori told reporters the changes were decided on from the start and that now was the only time the changes could be made. He also said there would have been no need for the change, if he was not going to be around for much longer.

When Mori said that now was the only time the changes could be made, he was talking about the roster expansions in the Majors and how this was a crucial time to check on players in the United States.

  • Shinichi Kondo – Ichi-gun Dugout Pitching Coach > Ichi-gun Bullpen Pitching Coach
  • Yui Tomori – Ichi-gun Bullpen Pitching Coach > Ichi-gun Dugout Pitching Coach
  • Kenta Asakura – primarily a Ni-gun pitching coach, he will remain with the Ichi-gun team until the end of the season.

September 24 @ 16:19 – The Marines could offer Makoto Imaoka a job as Ni-gun manager if Iguchi becomes Ichi-gun manager.

September 23 @ 11:01 – The media learned today that the Marines offered Iguchi the managerial job. If he accepts their offer, he will become the first Japanese player with MLB experience to manage a team. Iguchi told reporters he was grateful for the offer and that he considered it a great honor. He also said he planned to take some time to think about it after his retirement ceremony.

September 13 @ 08:30 – The media learned on September 12 that the Marines have accepted a formal resignation by Ochiai.

September 12 @ 13:08 – The media learned on September 11 that Outfield / Base Coach Masaji Shimizu is also planning to leave after the season. He informed the team that he wanted to take responsibility for his part in the team’s poor performance by stepping down. The Marines have accepted his decision.

September 5 @ 13:23 – Pitching Coach Ochiai told the media he is planning to step down at the end of the season. He said he failed to provide the manager with the necessary materials to succeed.

August 31 @ 17:04 – The media learned that Ichi-gun Pitching Coach Eiji Ochiai will not be returning next season. Ochiai reportedly told the Marines that he wanted to take responsibility for the team’s pitching by stepping down after the season. The team has accepted his decision.

[7/13/2017] Yomiuri Giants: Coaching Staff Changes

The Yomiuri Giants announced the following coaching staff changes today:

  • Masaki Saito: Ni-gun manager to Ichi-gun pitching coach
  • Junzo Uchida: Roving hitting coach to Ni-gun manager
  • Takao Obana: Ichi-gun pitching coach to Ichi-gun bullpen pitching coach
  • Kazuya Tabata: Ichi-gun bullpen pitching coach to advance scout

The changes will take effect on July 15.

  • Ni-gun pitching coach Hiroshi Kobayashi was reassigned to Ichi-gun pitching coach.
  • Ichi-gun pitching coach Nobuyuki Hoshino was reassigned to Ni-gun pitching coach.
