[6/17/2018] Yakult Swallows clinch first in Inter-league standings

The Yakult Swallows cliched first place in the Inter-league standings with a 5-1 victory over the Nippon Ham Fighters on June 17. The Swallows are the first Central League team to take first place since the Yomiuri Giants in 2012 and 2014.

The Pacific League improved to 55-47 (with six games remaining) during Inter-league play this year and will finish with more wins than the Central League for the ninth straight season. By recording more wins, the second round of the draft will begin with a Pacific League team.

Central League teams swept the Pacific League today for the third time in Inter-league history.

2018 Inter-League Schedule

Notes about the schedule

  • The Inter-league season will begin on May 29 (Tue) with the following six games: Nippon Ham – Yomiuri, Lotte – Yakult, Rakuten – Yokohama, Orix – Chunichi, Softbank – Hanshin, Seibu – Hiroshima. Each team will play nine games at home and nine games on the road for a total eigteen games. (Total games: 108)
  • Each team will play three games against each team in the other league.
  • Teams that were the home team in 2017 will be the away team in 2018, teams that were the away team in 2017 will be the home team in 2018.
  • Canceled games will be rescheduled to alternate dates, or between June 18 (Mon) and 21 (Thu).

[6/23/2017] 2017 NPB Inter-league Awards

Winners of the 2017 NPB Inter-league Awards were released by the NPB today.

Most Valuable Player Award

Yuki Yanagita (Softbank)
16 G, .338 BA, 24 H (5th tie), 7 HR (2nd tie), 23 RBI (1st), .415 OBP, .565 RISP (1st tie)
He led all players with twenty-three RBI. This was the second time he won the award.

Nihon Seimei Award

Go Matsumoto (Nippon Ham)
17 G, .396 BA (2nd), 21 H, 0 HR, 5 RBI, .439 OBP (2nd), .462 (4th tie)
He started getting more regular playing time after he recorded a pinch-hit two-run double in the ninth inning of a game against Hanshin at Koshien Stadium on June 2.

Yoshihiro Maru (Hiroshima)
18 G, .411 BA (1st), 30 H (1st), 5 HR, 18 RBI (2nd), .469 OBP (1st), .565 RISP (1st tie)
He led the league in batting average, hits, and on base percentage.

[6/19/2017] Final 2017 Inter-league Standings

Inter-league play ended today. The Softbank Hawks clinched first on Sunday with their victory over the Hiroshima Carp. The season will resume on June 23 (Friday).

2017 Nihon Seimei Ce-Pa Inter-League Schedule

The NPB released the 2017 Inter-league schedule today. Inter-league play will take place between May 30 (Tue) and June 18 (Sun) this year. Nihon Seimei will be the sponsor for the thirteenth consecutive year.

[6/19/2016] Softbank Hawks take first in Inter-league standings

The Softbank Hawks clinched first place during Inter-league play on Sunday with their 8-4 victory over the Hanshin Tigers and the Chiba Lotte Marine’s 5-1 loss at the hands of the Yomiuri Giants.

The Pacific League also recorded more wins than the Central League (with two games left to play, they are 59-46-1). The PL will be rewarded a total thirty million yen. The money will be split based on the final standings of teams (first place ten million, second place five million, third place four million, fourth place three million, fifth place two million, sixth place one million, and five million to the team with the highest winning percentage).

Three player awards will also be handed out. The MVP will be given to one player from the team with the highest winning percentage in the Pacific League. The Nihon Seimei Award will be given to one player from each league.
