[12/6/2017] Major College 2018 Tournament Dates

The Japan Student Baseball Association and the Japan University Baseball Federation held meetings in Tokyo on December 6 and set the calendar for the 2018 season.

49th Meiji Jingu Baseball Tournament

  • Six days beginning on November 9, 2018
  • Venue: Jingu Stadium
  • Tie-break: runners on first and second, no out (international rules)

67th Japan National Collegiate Baseball Championship

  • Seven days beginning on June 11, 2018
  • Venues: Jingu Stadium and Tokyo Dome
  • Tie-break: runners on first and second, no out (international rules)

42nd Japan-USA University Baseball Championship

  • July 3, 2018 – July 9, 2018, five games
  • United States

29th Haarlem Baseball Week

  • July 13, 2018 – July 22, 2018
  • The Netherlands

[6/5/2017] Samurai Japan Collegiate Team

Samurai Japan released the Collegiate National Team roster on June 4. The team will play in two tournaments: the 41st Japan-USA University Baseball Championship in July and the 29th Universiade in August.

Notes

  • Each team will be made up of twenty-four players.
  • Japan will be on the first base side of the field with the USA on the third base side.
  • The designated hitter will be used.
  • Tie-break rules will be used beginning in the tenth inning (runners on first and second and no out).
  • Games will be called if there is a ten run difference after seven inning.
  • Games will become official after five innings.
  • The official tournament baseball is the Mizuno 200.

[7/10/2016] Samurai Japan blanks Niigata Iryo Fukushi in practice game

The Samurai Japan collegiate team played a practice game against Niigata Iryo Fukushi University at HARD OFF ECO Stadium Niigata earlier today. Haruhiro Hamaguchi started the game and tossed four shutout innings. He faced thirteen hitters, did not allow a hit or a walk, and struck out ten. Shunpei Yoshikawa (two innings, six hitters), Masashi Ito (one inning), Hiromasa Saito (one inning), and Koya Mizuno (one inning) also pitched in the game. The five pitchers combined for a no-hitter and recorded a total twenty strikeouts against Niigata Iryo.

The offense scored a run in the seventh (a single and a stolen base by Chihiro Onishi, and an RBI single to left by Takuya Sato), a run in the eighth (with the help of an error), and two in the ninth (timely hits from Yusuke Oyama and Naoki Yoshikawa).

Samurai Japan beat Niigata Iryo 4-0.

The Japan-USA University Baseball Championship begins on July 12.
