[11/20/2018] Kimiyasu Kudo wins third Matsutaro Shoriki Award

The 2019 Matsutaro Shoriki Award will go to Kimiyasu Kudo. The award’s selection committee met today and decided to give the award to Kudo. Koichi Ogata, Tetsuto Yamada, and Hatsuhiko Tsuji were among the other candidates. The committee was impressed with Ogata’s third consecutive pennant, but he failed to win the Nippon Series. Yamada may have been a stronger candidate had the Yakult Swallows won the Nippon Series.

Kudo also won the Matsutaro Shoriki Award in 1987 (Seibu pitcher) and 2015 (Softbank manager). The three awards puts him in a four-way tie with Ichiro, Tatsunori Hara, and Koji Akiyama. Sadaharu Oh leads all players/manager with four.

Selection Committee: Sadaharu Oh, Shigeru Sugishita, Futoshi Nakanishi, Koji Yamamoto, and Ryusho Kadota.
