[7/21/2018] Keisuke Sawada diagnosed with injury to internal oblique muscle

Keisuke Sawada developed pain in his right side after his outing on July 20. He was examined at a hospital in Tokyo and diagnosed with an injury to his right internal oblique muscle. Sawada was taken off the active roster on July 21.

Yuma Mune took a ball off his left hand during practices on July 14. He was taken to a hospital in Osaka and diagnosed with a fracture in his left middle finger (distal phalanx).

[7/11/2018] Katsuki Yamazaki re-earns free agent option

Thirty-five-year-old Katsuki Yamazaki re-earned his free agent option on July 10. Yamazaki exercised his first free agent option in 2013 and left the Softbank Hawks for the Orix Buffaloes.

[7/9/2018] Orix Buffaloes and Yokohama Bay Stars agree on two-for-two trade

The Orix Buffaloes and Yokohama Bay Stars announced today that they agreed on a two-for-two player trade. Orix will send twenty-nine-year-old catcher Hikaru Ito and twenty-seven-year-old pitcher Ken Akama to Yokohama for twenty-seven-year-old catcher Shuto Takajo and twenty-five-year-old infielder Hiroyuki Shirasaki.

The Buffaloes also released uniform numbers for their newest additions: Takajo number 22 and Shirasaki number 2.

Brandon Dickson: Did You Know

July 8 vs Softbank at Kyocera Dome – Dickson entered the game in the seventh inning. He recorded four strikeouts in the eighth inning and became the twenty-third player in NPB history, third foreign player in NPB history (behind Donald Lemon in 2000 and Wirfin Obispo in 2009), to achieve the feat. He joined Takahito Nomura (August 8, 1993) as the only players in Buffaloes history to strike out four in one inning.

[7/7/2018] Orix Buffaloes add former Hanshin Tiger Akira Iwamoto

The Orix Buffaloes announced on July 7 that they signed twenty-five-year-old Akira Iwamoto. He was assigned the uniform number 91.

Iwamoto was drafted by the Hanshin Tigers in 2010 and went 4-2 with a 2.64 ERA in twenty-one Ichi-gun games. He was released in 2016 and signed with the Fukui Miracle Elephants in January 2017. He compiled a 9-9 record and a 2.84 ERA in forty-seven games over two seasons with Fukui.

According to media reports, Iwamoto agreed to a deal worth an estimated two million yen. The contract is good for the 2018 season.

The Orix Buffaloes are interested in Donn Roach. They may be close to finalizing a deal for the twenty-eight-year-old pitcher. The Buffaloes have been looking for another arm to help bolster the pitching staff during the summer months.

T-Okada hurt the area near his right side while running the bases in the seventh inning of a game against Nippon Ham on June 29. He was examined at a hospital in Sapporo and diagnosed with a strain to his right abdominis muscle. He was taken off the active roster on June 30.

[6/29/2018] Hiroyuki Nakajima hurts left hamstring

Hiroyuki Nakajima hurt his left leg while running the bases in the third inning of last night’s game against the Seibu Lions at MetLife Dome. He was carried off the field in a stretcher and taken to a hospital for tests. He was diagnosed with a strain in his left hamstring.

[6/17/2018] Yuya Oda taken off active roster

Yuya Oda made a diving catch during the seventh inning of a game against the Yokohama Bay Stars on June 16 and hurt his left wrist. He was examined at a hospital in Osaka and diagnosed with a left ulnar styloid fracture. He will be re-evaluated after keeping the wrist immobile for two to three weeks. He was taken off the active roster on June 17.
