[10/15/2018] Akihiro Yano to take over as new Tigers Ichi-gun Manager

The Hanshin Tigers announced that Akihiro Yano accepted their offer to become their next Ichi-gun manager.

Notes from various reports:

  • Yano struggled with the decision, but ultimately felt it was something he had to do.
  • The Tigers made Yano an official offer to become the next Ichi-gun manager on October 13 in Miyazaki. The Tigers met Yano for a second time at their office after Yano returned to Osaka on October 14. Yano returned home for some time to think and discuss his options with family and friends.
  • Before Tomoaki Kanemoto’s departure (announced on October 11), Yano was slated to become the next head coach.
  • Yano guided the Ni-gun team to a championship this year.
  • According to Tokyo Sports, Yano might have his work cut out for him: the new officials at the top reportedly got Kanemoto to step down and may not be willing to spend a lot on improving the team.

[10/11/2018] Yoshitaka Katori steps down as general manager

The Yomiuri Giants announced that Yoshitaka Katori stepped down as general manager, effective today.

I decided to step down because I want to take responsibility for not being able to win a championship. Since taking over as general manager in June last year, I have tried to work closely with the coaches and staff. I did my best to support Yoshinobu Takahashi, but in the end, it was not enough. I hope the team, under Takahashi, can rally together and advance through the Climax Series.

[10/11/2018] Tomoaki Kanemoto to step down as manager

Tomoaki Kanemoto will be stepping down as manager of the Hanshin Tigers after the season. Kanemoto told reporters today that there will still many things he wanted to do, but felt he had to resign because results were everything. The Tigers asked him to stay after last night’s game, but he declined. Kanemoto was in the first year of a three-year contract.

Notes

  • Kanemoto told Team President Kenji Ageshio about his decision after last night’s game.
  • Kanemoto is stepping down because of the team’s performance.
  • Kanemoto first started thinking about stepping down after the team secured a last place finish.
  • Ageshio suggested Kanemoto try a little more, but he was already set in his decision. The last place finish was a big factor.
  • Team Owner Shinya Sakai is planning to hold a press conference later today.
