July 17 vs Yokohama at Yokohama Stadium – Yuhei recorded a hit in his sixth straight pinch-hit plate appearance and set a new Yakult record.

September 5 vs Chunichi at Jingu Stadium – Yuhei blasted the fiftieth home run of his career (sixth inning, off Ryosuke Oguma) and became just the seventh player in NPB history with at least ten wins and fifty home runs.

Yuhei used a bat that weighed 890 grams in 2017. He started experimenting with other bats after he suffered a fractured hamate in his right wrist in late June. One of the bats he tried that he liked was a Norichika Aoki bat that weighed 910 grams. He plans to use the Aoki bat in 2018.

[6/28/2017] Yuhei hurts wrist while swinging bat

Yuhei hurt his wrist during tonight’s game against the Yomiuri Giants.

Yuhei led off the sixth inning for the Yakult Swallows and grabbed his right wrist after he fouled off the first pitch of the at bat. He walked toward the dugout on the first base side and was concerned about his wrist. He left the field for treatment and did not return. The Swallows replaced him with a pinch-hitter.

Yuhei was examined at a hospital on June 29 and diagnosed with a fracture in his right hamate. There is a good chance he will require surgery to treat the injury. He might end up missing the rest of the season.

The Swallows announced today that Yuhei will have surgery at a hospital in Tokyo on July 3. He might require two to three months for a full recovery.

Yuhei started in right and batted third against Ni-gun Yomiuri on September 27. He went 1-for-2: RBI single to right in the first, single to right in the third. He was removed on defense in the fourth inning. This was his first game in about three months.

[5/29/2017] Yuhei hurt knee during Saturday’s game

Yuhei hurt his right knee during’s Saturday’s (May 27) game against the Chunichi Dragons at Nagoya Dome. He hit a two-run double to left in the top of the second inning of yesterday’s (May 28) game, but did not return to the field on defense in the bottom-half of the inning. Mitsuru Manaka told reporters Yuhei said he was okay to play, but his knee was giving him problems. Yuhei is considered day-to-day.

[2/15/2017] Yuhei slowed by lower body tightness

Yuhei has been taking things a little slow since he started feeling tightness in his lower body on February 13. He did light workouts on his day off today. He is planning to discuss his schedule with the team trainer tomorrow. He feels he should be able to rejoin general workouts.

[11/1/2016] Yuhei not planning to use FA option

Thirty-two-year-old Yuhei earned his domestic free agent option this year. He met with the Yakult Swallows after fall practices on October 31 and told them he wanted to stay. He later spoke to the media and said that he thought staying was his best option and that he wanted to work hard for the Swallows again next year. He will most likely sign a one-year contract.

Thirty-two-year-old Yuhei earned his domestic FA option today with eight years of service time on the active roster.

[9/8/2016] Yuhei back on the active roster

Yuhei made it back to the active roster today. He was taken off the active roster on July 27 with a contusion on his left abdominal muscle. He was hoping to return in about a month, but developed pain in his left elbow in August. He is currently throwing the ball at seventy to eighty percent strength.

[8/24/2016] Yuhei goes 0-for-4 in rehab game

Yuhei (left side) played in his first rehab game on August 23 at Ni-gun against the Futures. He got the start at designated hitter and batted third. He went 0-for-4. Mitsuru Manaka is planning to call him up as soon as he is able to play defense.

[7/26/2016] Yuhei hurts left side

Yuhei left tonight’s game (July 26) against the Hanshin Tigers at Koshien Stadium with discomfort in his left side. He suffered the injury during his at bat in the top of the fourth and was replaced on defense in the bottom-half of the inning. He was taken to a hospital in Hyogo for tests during the game.
