[11/20/2018] Yokohama Bay Stars add Toru Komura and Daisuke Nakai

The Yokohama Bay Stars announced that they reached agreements with Toru Komura and former Yomiuri Giant Daisuke Nakai. Uniform numbers have not yet been assigned.

Komura was originally drafted by Yokohama in the eighth round of the 2011 draft. He spent three years in their organization, but struggled with right shoulder problems and never made it to Ichi-gun. He retired after he was released by Yokohama in 2014 and remained with the team as a batting practice pitcher. He left the Bay Stars after 2015 and signed with the Shikoku Island League’s Ehime Mandarin Pirates. He spent two seasons with Ehime and played for the BC League’s Toyama GRN Thunderbirds this year.

Nakai spent ten years in the Yomiuri Giants organization and posted a slash line of .244/.301/.351 over 345 games.

The Bay Stars held press conferences for Komura and Nakai on November 26. Komura was assigned the uniform number 67 and Nakai the uniform number 0.

According to media reports, Komura agreed to a salary worth an estimated six million yen and Nakai a salary worth an estimated 12 million yen.

Daisuke Nakai: Did You Know


The 10,000th Giants home run ball will be put on display at the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Tokyo. Nakai’s bat and batting gloves will also be on display. The exhibit will begin on October 19.

Nakai caught Toshiki Sakurai during fall camp on November 15, 2017. He did some catching when he was in junior high. The Yomiuri Giants are exploring the possibility of using him as an emergency back-up catcher.
