The Seibu Lions and Yomiuri Giants announced today that the Lions selected twenty-eight-year-old pitcher Hayato Takagi as part of their compensation package for losing thirty-year-old pitcher Ryoma Nogami to the Giants via free agency.
Takagi spent three years in the Yomiuri organization after being selected in the third round of the 2014 draft. In sixty-seven games and 308.0 innings of work, he went 15-21 with a 3.56 ERA and 1.21 WHIP.

The Lions held a press conference for Takagi today. He was assigned the uniform number 20.

Hayato Takagi left tonight’s game against the Yakult Swallows after suffering an injury during his at bat in the second inning.
Takagi attempted a sacrifice bunt with runners on first and second and one out in the second inning. The ball made contact near his right hand and rolled into play. He was unable to run to first. The catcher fielded the ball and completed a 2-5-3 double play to end the inning.
Takagi also took a batted ball near his chest in the first inning. He still managed to recover and throw Tetsuto Yamada out at first for the last out of the inning.

The Yomiuri Giants are planning to send Kazuma Okamoto, Hayato Takagi, and Kentaro Taira to play winter ball in Puerto Rico. Plans will become official as soon as all the paperwork clears. The Giants are hoping the overseas experience will help push them up to the next level.

The Giants announced today that Takagi, Taira, and Okamoto will be sent to Puerto Rico from October 27 until early- to mid-December. They will be working out with the Gigantes de Carolina. Whether or not they get playing time has not yet been determined.
