Kosuke Fukudome hit for the cycle during tonight’s game against the Chunichi Dragons at Koshien Stadium. This was the second cycle of his career. He recorded his first cycle on June 8, 2003. He joined Fumio Fujimura (October 2, 1948 and May 25, 1950), Hiromi Matsunaga (October 8, 1982 and May 24, 1991), and Robert Rose (May 2, 1995; April 29, 1997; and June 30, 1999) as the only players in NPB history to record multiple cycles during their career. Sixty-four players have now hit for the cycle sixty-nine times. At thirty-nine years and three months, Fukudome is the oldest player to hit for the cycle. The previous record of thirty-six years and six months was set by Koji Yamamoto on April 30, 1983.

June 14 vs Nippon Ham at Sapporo Dome – Fukudome hit a home run off Katsuhiko Kumon in the eighth inning and became the thirty-third player in NPB history to hit a home run against every NPB team, first since Jose Lopez on June 6, 2017. He joined Tomoaki Kanemoto (in 2005) and Takahiro Arai (in 2008) as the only players to accomplish the feat while wearing a Tigers uniform.
July 3 vs Chunichi at Koshien Stadium – Fukudome reordered his 3,000th base (single to right off Shinnosuke Ogasawara in the first inning) and became the fifty-seventh player to accomplish the feat. At forty-one years and two months, he is the third oldest to reach the milestone, behind Motonobu Tanishige at forty-one years and seven months and Takeshi Yamasaki at forty-one and five months.
Fukudome was selected by Yomiuri, Yakult, Chunichi, Lotte, Orix, Nippon Ham, and Kintetsu during the 1995 draft. He wanted to play for either Yomiuri or Chunichi, but Kintetsu won the pick. Kintetsu tried to persuade him to sign by saying they would trade him after three years, but that got the organization into trouble because it was against the rules.
Fukudome went on to play for for Nihon Seimei (Industrial League) and re-entered the draft three years later in 1998 and joined Chunichi using the reverse selection (gyaku shimei) rule.
