Taiki Mitsumata started working out at catcher during practices at Nagoya Dome on May 23. He caught pitchers during batting practice and tested his arm with throws to second base. He also played one inning as a catcher during a Ni-gun game against Hanshin at Nagoya Stadium on May 26 (he caught Takeshi Kaneko).
Mitsumata has no real experience at catcher, other than a few practices games when he was in junior high school and high school.

Taiki Mitsumata borrowed Iori Katsura’s equipment and worked out as a catcher during practices earlier today. He first played some catch with the gear on, and then set up behind the plate during batting practice. He showed a strong arm with some throws to second. He is slated to get some playing time at catcher during Ni-gun games this week.
Mitsumata is not completely without catching experience — he caught a few practice games when he was in high school.
Takuma Kato was taken off the active roster today to make room for Shinnosuke Ogasawara. Kato was the third catcher. The Dragons are hoping Mitsumata will be able to take on the role as emergency back-up catcher.0 Comments
