The Tochigi Golden Braves of the BC League announced that they hired Takayuki Terauchi to be their new manager. Terauchi spent twelve years in the Yomiuri organization before retiring at the end of the season this year.

October 8 vs Softbank at ZOZO Marine – Okada went hitless in his fifty-ninth straight plate appearance and tied an NPB record for position players. The previous record of fifty-eight was set by Teruhide Sakurai between 1977 and 1978 (for all players, including pitchers, the streak of ninety was set by Kenshiro Saga between 1954 and 1955). Okada’s streak began in October 2016. He ended the streak with a hit to left in the fifth inning (off Nao Higashihama).
Okada set the record and broke the streak during his retirement game. He finished his career with zero home runs over 2,501 trips to the plate.0 Comments
The Chiba Lotte Marines announced today that thirty-three-year-old Kenji Otonari and thirty-four-year-old Yoshifumi Okada will retire at the end of the season. The Marines released the following statements from the two players.
Thank you for all the support you provided over my twelve-year career. It was not easy career, but I was able to get through it with the help and support from various people. I am really grateful. Thank you very much.
Ten years was a short time, but I had a good baseball career. The Chiba Lotte Marines selected me during the Ikusei draft and they gave me an opportunity to play baseball. I hope to use what I learned during the next part of my life. I have no regrets. I feel I was able to have such a fulfilling career because of all the support the fans provided. Thank you for cheering for me.

The Marines announced that they will hold retirement ceremony for Okada after a Softbank game on October 8.

Yoshifumi Okada earned his domestic free agent option earlier this year in April. He spoke to reporters on October 30 and said that he was planning to stay with Lotte. A team official has already told him that he is a part of their plans for 2018.
