[8/1/2017] Kona Takahashi close to pitching in Ni-gun rehab game

Kona Takahashi was taken off the active roster on May 19 because of discomfort in his right shoulder. He has already tossed over 100 pitches in a bullpen session. He also threw thirty-one pitches during a batting practice scrimmage on July 22.

The Lions will determine whether or not Takahashi is ready to return to the active roster after two or three Ni-gun appearances. He could get his first Ni-gun outing during a two-game series against Nippon Ham that begins on August 8. He could pitch about five innings.

[2/20/2017] Kona Takahashi misses intra-squad game with shoulder tightness

Kona Takahashi was scratched from an intra-squad game on February 19 because of tightness in his right shoulder. His condition does not appear to be serious, since he was able to play catch. Takahashi grew up a Yomiuri Giants fan. He particularly liked Shinnosuke Abe.

Takahashi got pointers on how to throw the knuckle-curve from teammate Felipe Paulino during practices on June 22. He throws a slider, forkball, and curve, but wanted something with more vertical movement because his curve follows similar diagonal path to his slider.

[6/3/2016] Kona Takahashi strikeouts out eleven in complete game victory

Kona Takahashi recorded a complete game victory against the Yokohama Bay Stars at Seibu Prince Dome on June 2. In the process, he recorded at least one strikeout in each of the nine innings he pitched for a total eleven (one in each inning, except for the sixth and eighth, where he struck out two each).

Takahashi (nineteen years and three months) is the ninth player under twenty to record a strikeout in every inning, first since Yu Darvish (nineteen years and nine months) on June 6, 2006 against Hanshin. Only one other Seibu pitcher has accomplished the feat: Daisuke Matsuzaka (eighteen years and eleven months) on September 2, 1999 against Nippon Ham.
