[7/9/2017] Steel pipe hits Hiroyuki Nakajima during pre-game practice

A six-kilogram steel pipe fell from the fifth floor stands onto the field near center at Kyocera Dome Osaka earlier today. Hiroyuki Nakajima was struck by the pipe — somewhere between his right waist and right neck — while he was stretching with a trainer. The blow was not direct (the pipe apparently hit the ground once).

Practices were temporarily suspended as officials checked on Nakajima. They called for a stretcher, but he was able to walk off the field on his own. He was taken to a hospital in Osaka for tests and diagnosed with a bruise.

Contractors were setting up game sponsor banners below the large screen in center at the time of the accident. The steel pipe was one of about half-a-dozen other pipes that prop up the banners.
