The Orix Buffaloes announced today that Erik Cordier (30) will be returning to the United States on September 6.
The Buffaloes signed Cordier this year to fill their closer role, but he struggled to secure a regular spot in the bullpen. He developed pain in his right hip and was diagnosed with a sports hernia in his right groin. He still felt pain during a bullpen session on August 26 and decided to have surgery to treat the condition. He will most likely require two to three months for a full recovery. He is not expected to return to the Buffaloes next year.0 Comments
Erik Cordier was taken off the active roster on April 7 for some a tune-up at Ni-gun. The Buffaloes were looking at him as a closer, but they may now be considering another role for him. In the mean time, Yoshihisa Hirano will most likely take over as closer.
The Buffaloes are expected to add Pat Misch to the active roster.
