Wataru Karashima took a batted ball off the area near his left thumb during his start against the Nippon Ham Fighters on June 22.
With two out in the bottom of the first inning, Kensuke Kondo hit a ball back up the middle that struck Karashima near the base of his left thumb. Karashima left the field for treatment and was unable to return. He was later taken to a hospital in Sendai and diagnosed with a bruise (no abnormalities to the bone).0 Comments
Wataru Karashima was working his way back from left shoulder inflammation when he also developed pain in his side. He pitched in a Ni-gun rehab game on June 11 against Yakult at Tendo. It was his first game since April 12.
Karashima entered the game in the fifth inning and gave up two runs on three hits over two innings of work. He struggled with his control and later told reporters it was due to a lack of throwing.

Wataru Karashima was taken off the active roster on April 18 with pain in his left shoulder. The Rakuten Eagles announced today that Karashima was examined at a hospital in Chiba on April 20 and diagnosed with mild inflammation in the shoulder. He will be shut down for a few days.
