Carlos Peguero left Sunday’s (July 23) game against the Orix Buffaloes at Kobo Park Miyagi after he hurt his left leg while attempting a stolen base in the bottom of the first inning.
Peguero was later taken to a hospital in Sendai and diagnosed with an injury to his left semitendinosus muscle that will require two to three weeks for a full recovery.

Peguero was in the United States. He is slated to return to Japan today and will be re-examined early next week.

Peguero rejoined the team on August 8 and participated in Ichi-gun indoor practices. He took live batting practice for the first time since he got hurt. He told reporters he felt good, had no issue swinging the bat, and was close to running at full speed. A follow-up check at a hospital in Sendai the other day confirmed that he was making good progress. If everything goes well, he might be able to return to the active roster for a six-game stretch against Seibu and Softbank that begins on August 15.

Peguero played in a Ni-gun rehab game on August 12. He started at designated hitter and batted second. He walked in his first at bat and came around to score on a double into the gap in left-center. The game as called after the first due to rain. He is expected to return to the active roster on August 16.

Peguero was not feeling well yesterday and was replaced on defense in the sixth inning. He left the stadium before the end of the game to get treatment at a hospital. Masataka Nashida decided to leave him out of the starting line-up tonight after he heard Peguero visited the hospital again this morning.

The Rakuten Eagles announced today that they reached an agreement with twenty-nine-year-old outfielder Carlos Peguero. He was assigned the uniform number 71. According to media reports, the two sides agreed to a one-year deal worth an estimated twenty-five million yen.
