The previous record of five was held by four players: Nobuhiro Takashiro in 1979, Hiromichi Ishige in 1981, Yoshinori Ogata in 2004, and Hisayoshi Chono in 2010.

July 27, 2017 vs Yakult at Jingu Stadium – Kyoda recorded his 100th hit of the season (ninety-one games, 371 plate appearances). He became the first rookie to record 100 hits since Hanshin’s Shun Takayama in 2016 and the first Chunichi rookie since Kosuke Fukudome in 1999.

August 9, 2017 vs Hiroshima at Nagoya Dome – Kyoda notched the first five-hit game of his career. He is just the second rookie to record five hits in a game since the start of the draft. The other was Tsuyoshi Oshita on August 30, 1967.

September 12 vs Yakult at Jingu Stadium – Kyoda recorded two hits and pushed his season hit total to 136. He tied the single season rookie record for hits by a shortstop, set by Takeshi Suzuki in 1953.

September 14, 2017 vs Yakult at Jingu Stadium – Kyoda went 1-for-5. His hit in the sixth inning was his 139th of the season and tied the Chunichi Dragons’ single-season rookie hit record (Shinichi Eto in 1959).
The Central League’s single-season rookie hit record of 153 was set by Shigeo Nagashima in 1958.
September 18, 2017 vs Yomiuri at Nagoya Dome – Kyoda went 2-for-4. He set a new Chunichi Dragons’ franchise single-season hit record for rookies with his 141st hit of the season in the fifth inning. He added another hit in the eighth.
