Yamada visited Dodgers Stadium when he participated in a Japan-United States High School Exhibition Series during his third year in high school in 2010. He met Hiroki Kuroda and managed to secure an autographed baseball.

Yamada signed a multi-year advisory contract with Adidas Japan. He has been working with Adidas since 2014. The length of the contract might be at least four years.
August 30, 2017 vs Hanshin at Koshien Stadium – Yamada recorded hit twentieth home run of the season and became the third Japanese player in Yakult Swallows’ franchise history to hit twenty or more home runs in four consecutive seasons. The other two: Takahiro Ikeyama (six years between 1988 and 1993) and Katsumi Hirosawa (five years between 1990 and 1994).
