The Hiroshima Carp successfully stole home on a double-steal during the first game of the Nippon Series on Saturday.
The play came after Yoshiyuki Ishihara failed two bunt attempts with runners on first and third and one out in the second inning. Seiya Suzuki came around to score as Nippon Ham’s Shota Ono made a throw that Shohei Otani was supposed to cut.
This was the fifth time in Nippon Series history a team successfully stole home, all on double steals with a runner on first. The other four occasions: 1951, Game 4, third inning, Kazuo Kageyama; 1962, Game 6, first inning, Katsutoshi Yoshida; 1968, Game 5, third inning, Shozo Doi; and 1969, Game 4, fourth inning, Shozo Doi.
