The Hanshin Tigers announced today that Yoshio Itoi developed discomfort in his right knee during his off-season workouts. He was examined by a team doctor and diagnosed with inflammation in his right knee. He is expected to attend Ichi-gun spring camp next month, but will take things slow until he is feeling better.
[UPDATE 2/22 @ 11:49pm]
Itoi took thirty-nine swings during live batting practice today and hit nine over the fence, including one to right that traveled about 140 meters. He also played catch at a distance of about fifty meters.

[UPDATE 3/11 @ 11:11pm]
Itoi told reporters on March 10 that he thought he could probably go at full speed without experiencing any discomfort. He might be able play in his first game on March 14 against Orix at Kyocera Dome, most likely at designated hitter.
[UPDATE 3/15 @ 1:36am]
Itoi’s first exhibition game of the year was pushed back a day to March 15. It was apparently never his intention to play on March 14.
