[3/10/2017] Seishiro Sakamoto has surgery to treat thumb fracture

Seishiro Sakamoto was hit by a pitch during a Kyoiku League game against Orix on March 7. The Hanshin Tigers announced today that he had surgery to treat a fracture in his right thumb at a hospital in Osaka.

Sakamoto could begin a throwing program some time this month. He caught Masumi Hamachi’s bullpen session on April 8, but had a trainer throw the ball back to the pitcher.

Sakamoto resumed taking live batting practice on April 21. He took about eighty swings and hit four over the fence.

[UPDATE 4/30 @ 8:40pm]

Sakamoto played in a batting practice scrimmage at the Naruohama facilities today. Koki Moriya was on the mound. Sakamoto went 4-for-8 with a home run. He might be ready to get some playing time during an upcoming Ni-gun series against Hiroshima that begins on May 2.
