[5/16/2017] Tsuyoshi Nishioka joins Ni-gun general practices

Tsuyoshi Nishioka (left Achilles tendon) joined Ni-gun general practices at Naruohama today. Masayuki Kakefu told reporters that based on his current condition, Nishioka might be able to play in his first rehab game at designated hitter later this month.

Nishioka did not participate in general practices on May 17. The Hanshin Tigers are still having him take things slow. He could be ready to play during a three-game series against Softbank that begins on May 30.

Nishioka played in his first Ni-gun rehab game on May 30 (it was his first game in general since July 20, 2016). He got the start at designated hitter and batted clean-up against Softbank at Chikugo. He recorded two at bats: G5 in the second inning, 1B9 in the fourth inning.

Nishioka played in his second rehab game on May 31. He started at designated hitter and batted clean-up against Ni-gun Softbank. He went 1-for-3 and recorded a single to center in the sixth inning.

Nishioka played in a Ni-gun rehab game against Softbank today. He was the starting designated hitter and batted clean-up. He went 1-for-2: flied out to left in his first at bat in the second inning and hit a two-out single to left in his second at bat in the fourth inning.

Nishioka has been limited to designated hitter. He could begin playing some defense during a Ni-gun Softbank series that begins on June 9. If he continues to make smooth progress, he might be ready to join the Ichi-gun team after Inter-league play.

Nishioka played in a Ni-gun rehab game against Hiroshima today. He got the start at short, batted lead-off, and went 0-for-4. He reached on an error in the first inning and later stole third. He handled seven chances at short without any problems.

Nishioka started in center and batted lead-off against Ni-gun Hiroshima today. He went 2-for-2: He reached on a bunt in the first and hit a single to center in the second. He was replaced after two at bats (as planned). He is now 10-for-30 in eleven games.

Nishioka started at designated hitter and batted lead-off against Ni-gun Chunichi on July 2. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI: he hit an RBI double to left in his second at bat and a single to left in his third at bat. He is now 16-for-40 in fourteen Ni-gun games.

He also recorded a single to left in his first at bat. He went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two stolen bases (he stole second and third in the first inning). He committed one fielding error.

Nishioka will play in a three-game series against Ni-gun Hiroshima that begins today at Naruohama. If everything checks out, he will join the Ichi-gun team on July 15.

Tomoaki Kanemoto was at today’s game until the end of the fifth inning. Nishioka got the start at short and batted lead-off. He went 1-for-4 with an RBI and recorded an RBI double in the fourth inning.

Through July 9, he was 21-for-55 with seven stolen bases in eighteen Ni-gun games.

Nishioka started in left and batted lead-off against Ni-gun Hiroshima earlier today. He flied out to center in his first at bat, walked in his second at bat, and singled to right in his third at bat. He left the game on defense in the seventh. He handled three chances in left without any problems.
