Tsuyoshi Nishioka (left Achilles tendon) joined Ni-gun general practices at Naruohama today. Masayuki Kakefu told reporters that based on his current condition, Nishioka might be able to play in his first rehab game at designated hitter later this month.

Nishioka did not participate in general practices on May 17. The Hanshin Tigers are still having him take things slow. He could be ready to play during a three-game series against Softbank that begins on May 30.

Nishioka played in his first Ni-gun rehab game on May 30 (it was his first game in general since July 20, 2016). He got the start at designated hitter and batted clean-up against Softbank at Chikugo. He recorded two at bats: G5 in the second inning, 1B9 in the fourth inning.

Nishioka played in his second rehab game on May 31. He started at designated hitter and batted clean-up against Ni-gun Softbank. He went 1-for-3 and recorded a single to center in the sixth inning.

Nishioka played in a Ni-gun rehab game against Softbank today. He was the starting designated hitter and batted clean-up. He went 1-for-2: flied out to left in his first at bat in the second inning and hit a two-out single to left in his second at bat in the fourth inning.

Nishioka has been limited to designated hitter. He could begin playing some defense during a Ni-gun Softbank series that begins on June 9. If he continues to make smooth progress, he might be ready to join the Ichi-gun team after Inter-league play.
