[5/25/2017] Wladimir Balentien suspended and fined

Wladimir Balentien started a heated argument with home plate umpire Hideto Fuke after he struck out in the first inning of last night’s (May 24) game against the Hiroshima Carp at Mazda Stadium. Fuke ejected Balentien for his actions (poor attitude toward an umpire’s balls and strikes calls, excessive language).

The NPB commissioner issued the following punishment today:

  • One-game suspension
  • 100,000 yen fine

The suspension is automatic based on the Central League Agreement (two or more ejections in one season results in a suspension). Balentien is the first player to be suspended since Matt Murton in 2013.
