Motohiro Shima left tonight’s game against the Yakult Swallows after he took a ball off what appeared to be the right side of his chin. The incident took place in the fifth inning with a runner on first and no out. Takahiro Norimoto threw a ball in the dirt that took a big hop and hit Shima near the chin. The catcher was able to retrieve the ball, but not before the runner on first was able to advance all the way to third.
Shima had a difficult time walking and had to be helped off the field.
