Fujihira told reporters on October 30 that he has plans to workout with Yu Darvish for a week or two in December. He also has plans to work out with Takahiro Norimoto and Masahiro Tanaka in January.
August 22, 2017 vs Lotte at ZOZO Marine – Fujihara recorded his first professional victory. The win came in his third game and set a new Rakuten Eagles’ franchise record. The previous record of four games was set by Masahiro Tanaka in 2007. He also joined Yuki Matsui (August 13, 2014, second career victory) as the only high school rookies in franchise history to stop a losing streak of six or more games with a victory.
September 5, 2017 vs Nippon Ham at Toyama – Fujihira stopped a ten-game losing streak with his second victory of the year. The Rakuten Eagles were in danger of tying the franchise record they set in their first year in 2005 (they recorded two eleven-game losing streaks in 2005).
Fujihira became the first rookie out of high school to stop a losing streak of ten or more since Takao Osaki and Toshiaki Tokuhisa in 1961. Osaki stopped an eleven-game losing streak with a victory against Yomiuri as a reliever on May 2. Tokuhisa stopped two ten-game losing streak, one on June 23 against Hankyu as a starter and another on August 8 against Toei as a reliever.
