Seishu Hatake was ejected from tonight’s Hanshin-Yomiuri game at Tokyo Dome for throwing a dangerous pitch to Hiroki Uemoto. The incident took place in the top of the first inning. Uemoto stepped into the batter’s box with a runner on second and no out. Hakate’s first pitch was up and in and struck Uemoto in the face, near his left cheek.
A stretcher was prepared for Uemoto, but he was able to get up and walk off the field. He was replaced by a pinch-runner. Hataka was ejected after throwing just four pitches.
Uemoto was taken to a hospital in Tokyo for tests. He was diagnosed with a minor bruise on his head. He is not expected to miss tomorrow’s game against the Giants.
