[12/21/2017] Orix Buffaloes add Andrew Albers

The Orix Buffaloes announced today that they reached an agreement with thirty-two-year-old pitcher Andrew Albers. He was assigned the uniform number 27. The Buffaloes would like to see Albers win a spot in the starting rotation.

According to media reports, the two sides agreed to a one-year deal worth an estimated 900,000 US dollars.

  • A good risk at $900,000. In my mind, there is a very broad of possibilities regarding how Albers might pitch in NPB. If he pitches like he did last year for the Mariners and at AAA Gwinnett (a suburb of Atlanta), he could be great in Japan. If he pitches like he did in the KBO in 2014, he won’t last long in NPB.

    Albers is coming off his best MLB season, but he is already 32. Albers’ second best MLB season was in 2013, the year before his dismal season in the KBO. It still seems like a reasonable risk to take in terms of Orix’s budget constraints.
