Seiichi Uchikawa fouled a ball off his left leg during his second at bat in the third inning of a game against the Rakuten Eagles at Rakuten Seimei Park on May 15. He was then replaced on defense with runners on first and second and one out in the bottom-half of the inning as a precaution.
Uchikawa was examined at a hospital in Sendai and diagnosed with a bruise on his left medial malleolus. He is considered day-to-day.
[UPDATE 5/18 @ 1:26am]
Uchikawa was taken off the active roster on May 17. The Softbank Hawks decided to give the veteran some time to recover. Uchikawa was also apparently still feeling the effects of an HBP to the right knee in April. He is expected to return to the active roster in the minimum ten days.
