Seiichi Uchikawa fouled a ball off his left leg during his second at bat in the third inning of a game against the Rakuten Eagles at Rakuten Seimei Park on May 15. He was then replaced on defense with runners on first and second and one out in the bottom-half of the inning as a precaution.
Uchikawa was examined at a hospital in Sendai and diagnosed with a bruise on his left medial malleolus. He is considered day-to-day.

Uchikawa was taken off the active roster on May 17. The Softbank Hawks decided to give the veteran some time to recover. Uchikawa was also apparently still feeling the effects of an HBP to the right knee in April. He is expected to return to the active roster in the minimum ten days.0 Comments

Robert Suarez had Tommy John surgery in April last year and had been rehabbing in Puerto Rico. Suarez returned to Japan today and told reporters that he was at about ninety percent (he has already thrown off a mound and faced some hitters). He will begin practices at the Softbank Hawks’ farm facilities on May 6.

The media learned on April 27 that Dennis Sarfate had surgery on his right hip. Sarfate was examined at a hospital in Colorado after he returned to the United States on April 20. The closer opted for surgery after discussions with doctors and the Softbank Hawks. He will require about four months for a full recovery. and will rehab the hip in the United States.0 Comments
Yuki Yanagita hit for the cycle (home run in the first, single in the fourth, double in the fifth, and triple in the eighth) during a game against the Nippon Ham Fighters at Sapporo Dome on April 21. Sixty-five players have now hit for the cycle seventy times in NPB history (thirty-two players and thirty-three times in the Pacific League). Yanagita is the first player in the NPB to hit for the cycle since Kosuke Fukudome on July 30, 2016; the first in the Pacific League since Julio Zuleta on September 22, 2007; and the first Hawk since Arihito Muramatsu on July 1, 2003.
The Softbank Hawks and Nippon Ham Fighters announced on April 18 that they reached an agreement on a trade. The Fighters will send thirty-two-year-old Tomoya Ichikawa to the Hawks for cash considerations.
