The Yakult Swallows announced that thirty-three-year-old Tetsuya Yamamoto and thirty-six-year-old Kenichi Matsuoka will be retiring at the end of the season. They posted the following comments from the players.
To the fans, thank you for supporting for nine years. Even though I missed a full season with a year of rehab, the support from many people allowed me to end my career with no regrets. Please continue to root and cheer for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows.
A very big thank you to the fans that supported me for fourteen years. I was able to get through the good and the bad because of your support. I am nothing but grateful. Thank you.
