Twenty-year-old Julius Higuma had surgery to clean out his left elbow in August last year and Tommy John surgery on the same elbow earlier this year in June. The Yakult Swallows senryokugaied him after the regular season in October. On Friday (November 24), Higuma reached an agreement to return to the Swallows as an Ikusei player. His uniform number will change from 48 to 119. His salary will be an estimated four million yen (down 800,000 yen from this year).
Higuma is currently rehabbing his elbow. He is able to play catch at a distance of about forty meters. He could be ready for rehab games in May or June next year.

The media learned on May 8 that Julius Higuma will have Tommy John surgery on his left elbow at a hospital in Tatebayashi, Gunma on May 10. He will most likely require about a year for a full recovery.
Higuma had surgery to remove osteophytes from his left elbow last August. He was making good progress until he started feeling pain about two to three weeks.
