The Chiba Lotte Marines announced that they reached an agreement with thirty-eight-year-old Toru Hosokawa. He has not yet been assigned a uniform number. According to various media reports, the two sides agreed to a one-year deal worth an estimated fifteen million yen.

Toru Hosokawa developed pain in his left calf during pre-game practices on April 29. He was taken off the active roster today and will be examined at a hospital in Sendai on May 1.
With Motohiro Shima also out, the Rakuten Eagles will most likely go with two catchers (Yuichi Adachi and Tadashi Ishimine) on the active roster for the time being.

The Rakuten Eagles announced today that Hosokawa was examined at a hospital in Sendai and diagnosed with an injury to his left calf. He will most likely need about four weeks for a full recovery.

The Eagles have been looking for a back-up catcher. They were interested in Hosokawa because he is from the Tohoku region (Aomori). As an added bonus, he was teammates with free agent Takayuki Kishi between 2007 and 2010.

0 CommentsToru Hosokawa stole second during Saturday’s game against the Rakuten Eagles at kobo Stadium and hurt his leg. He reached base on a single to left in the third inning and stole second as Akira Nakamura struck out swinging on a 3-2 pitch. Hosokawa managed to steal his first base in five years, but also hurt his right leg in the process (near the hamstring). He left the field for treatment and was ultimately replaced by a pinch-runner.

Hosokawa was taken to a hospital in Sendai during the game and was diagnosed with a minor strain in his right biceps femoris. He will be taken off the active roster today. He will require about ten days for a full recovery.
