[8/14/2018] Naomasa Yokawa taken off active roster on August 12

Naomasa Yokawa went 0-for-3 against Yokohama on August 10 and was replaced on defense at third in the sixth inning. He did not play on August 11 and was taken off the active roster on August 12 with pain in his right elbow.

[7/30/2018] Hanshin Tigers add Hiroaki Saiuchi to seventy-man roster

The Hanshin Tigers added Hiroaki Saiuchi to their seventy-man roster. They announced the move on July 30. Saiuchi’s uniform number will change from 126 to 97.

In seventeen Ni-gun games this year, Saiuchi recorded a 4.41 ERA (16.1 IP, 11 SO, 4 BB, 17 H, 8 ER).

[7/26/2018] Hanshin, Softbank agree on trade: Ryoma Matsuda for Yuya Iida

The Hanshin Tigers and Softbank Hawks announced on July 26 that they agreed to a one-for-one player trade. The Tigers will send twenty-four-year-old pitcher Ryoma Matsuda to the Hawks for twenty-seven-year-old pitcher Yuya Iida. Both teams were looking to improve their bullpens. The trade will also allow Matsuda (Nagasaki) and Iida (Hyogo) to move a little closer to home.

July 21 vs Yokohama at Yokohama Stadium – Toshiro Miyazaki’s strikeout in the seventh inning became Fujikawa’s 1,000th strikeout in relief (1,093rd overall). Fujikawa is the first reliever in Tigers history to record 1,000 strikeouts.

[7/9/2018] Hanshin at Hiroshima three-game series canceled

The Hiroshima Carp announced on July 8 that they decided to cancel their three-game home series against the Hanshin Tigers at Mazda Stadium between July 9 (Mon) and 11 (Wed) due to the heavy western Japan rains. In a statement posted at the team website, the Carp explained that they decided to cancel the series after thinking about the many victims of the disaster. They offered their condolences and prayers to those affected by the rains.

[7/7/2018] About today’s Yokohama-Hanshin rain out

Today’s Yokohama-Hanshin game was rained out. It was the third consecutive rain out at Koshien Stadium (vs Chunichi on July 5, vs Yokohama on July 5, vs Yokohama on July 7). The last time three consecutive games were rained out at Koshien Stadium was a three-game series against Yokohama in July 1995.

[7/3/2018] Yoshio Itoi suffers fibula fracture

Yoshio Itoi was hit by a pitch near his right shin in the eighth inning of a game against the Yakult Swallows at Jingu Stadium on June 30. He did not play on July 1 and was examined at a hospital in Osaka on July 2. The Hanshin Tigers announced on July 3 that Itoi was diagnosed with a right fibula fracture and was taken off the active roster.

The Tigers have not yet made an official decision regarding Itoi’s status for the All-Star series.

[6/15/2018] Hiroki Uemoto has left knee surgery

The Hanshin Tigers announced on June 15 that Hiroki Uemoto was discharged from a hospital in Osaka after successful reconstructive surgery on his left knee (anterior cruciate ligament) and some rehab. Uemoto hurt his knee when he slid into second base during a game against the Chunichi Dragons at Koshien Stadium on May 5. He had to be taken off the field on a stretcher.
