[11/24/2017] Ryutaro Umeno to become next Tigers chief player rep

Ryutaro Umeno is said to be next in line to take over as Hanshin Tigers chief player representative. Umeno is currently the vice player rep. An official announcement is expected during the final team player meeting of the year later this month.

Umeno will be taking over for Keisuke Kano.

[11/24/2017] Randy Messenger slated get 2018 Opening Day start

Tomoaki Kanemoto told reporters on November 23 that he is planning to give thirty-six-year-old Randy Messenger the opening day start next season. For Messenger, it will be his fifth opening day start and fourth in as many years. He will become the first foreign pitcher in NPB history to record four consecutive opening day starts. The current record of three is held by Joe Stanka (1961-1963) and Messenger.

[11/22/2017] Former Hanshin Tiger Shinta Hifumi arrested

The media learned on November 22 that former Hanshin Tiger Shinta Hifumi and two other individuals (minors) were arrested by Okinawa police earlier this month on suspicion of assaulting a woman. No other information is known at this time.

[11/18/2017] Hanshin could offer Kyuji Fujikawa a new multi-year deal

Thirty-seven-year-old Kyuji Fujikawa finished out the second year of a two-year deal this season. The Hanshin Tigers met Fujikawa at the end of the season and told him he was an important part of their team. Sanspo is reporting that the Tigers might be getting ready to offer the veteran a new multi-year contract (possibly two years).

[11/16/2017] Hanshin Tigers sign Shintaro Yokota to Ikusei contract

The Hanshin Tigers signed twenty-two-year-old Shintaro Yokota to an Ikusei contract on November 16. Yokota was diagnosed with a brain tumor in February. He received treatment for the tumor and found out he was in remission in late-August. He returned to the player dormitory in early-September and has been training since then.

[11/12/2017] Taiki Ono leaves fall camp with knee pain

Taiki Ono left fall camp in Kochi and returned to Osaka on November 12 because of pain in his right knee.

Ono started feeling pain in his right knee on November 9. The Hanshin Tigers are concerned because he had surgery on his right knee during his third year of high school. Ono had the knee examined today.
